Building a future with an already historic past,
it’s a nation of diversity and contrast with a
youthful energy and drive. Relying on innovation and
flexibility Jordan has emerged as one of the Middle
East’s most promising prospects.
Jordan has been brought into the global spotlight as
a pioneer in both political and economic aspects.
With a population of 5.4 million we have come to be
recognized as one of the most educated and empowered
societies in the Middle East. The highest level of
literacy in the region and a very strong female
participation has helped us attain this status in
the Arab world.
Our future is going to be built on the peace we have
made with our neighbors in the past. Under the
leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan
brought a new face to the region and a new
philosophy that is driven for a more stable and
promising future based on democracy, equal
opportunity and prosperity.
With efforts to try and improve Jordan, results are
apparent. It is the first Arab country to establish
a fully independent human rights watchdog, women in
Jordan have obtained high posts through their
professional skills and hard work, and now the
voting age has been reduced from 19 to 18 years to
further engage the youth in the political arena. Our
image for the future is becoming more of a reality
everyday.
Jordan’s emphasis on their economy has made it the
region’s most integrated economy. Securing a WTO
membership in 2000 and a Free Trade Area Agreement
with the US in 2001 have helped build on the
country’s traditionally strong position as a
regional trading hub.
By defying the Middle East reputation of being slow
to divest, Jordan is now heralded as one of the most
successful privatization processes in the region.
With bold initiatives such as the recently
established Aqaba Special Economic Zone, Jordan has
attracted the interest of a string of multinational
giants bringing new expertise, technology, and jobs
to the domestic market.
