Prince Zeid and the Honorable Sampson
Address Washington's Business Community


Washington, DC (April 18th 2007) - The Economic & Commerce Bureau at the Embassy of Jordan in Washington, DC in conjunction with The US-Jordan Business Alliance, The Jordan Overseas Investment Network in the United States, The National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce, The Business Council for International Understanding and The National Foreign Trade Council hosted a special luncheon to welcome His Royal Highness Prince Zeid Ra’ad as Jordan’s new Ambassador to the United States.

The event aimed to capitalize on US-Jordanian economic relation in light of Jordan’s Free Trade Agreement with the US and given that the United States stands to be Jordan’s first trading partner today.

Deputy Secretary of Commerce, the Honorable David Sampson attended the special event and addressed the attending members of the business community. Sampson focused on Jordan’s positive economic growth and highlighted the ever-strengthening ties between the U.S. and Jordan since the signing of the Jordan-U.S. free trade agreement. Mr. Sampson also praised Jordan for undertaking economic reforms that have contributed to the favorable investment environment in Jordan. Sampson also noted that both the US and Jordan have benefited tremendously from the FTA agreement and that there is still much room for growth.

In his brief address to the business leadership, His Royal Highness Prince Zeid spoke of Jordan’s rapidly growing economy adding that it is being increasingly acknowledged as a vibrant and attractive destination for economic opportunities and investment. The ambassador pointed out the impressive advances Jordan has made economically and socially, including: Rapid growth in the apparel and pharmaceutical sectors, Health care improvements, specifically an increase in patient access to medicine and growth in the field of medical tourism, which last year saw 105,000 visitors. Prince Zeid also noted that Jordan will have the honor of hosting the upcoming World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea, which further signals the increased recognition of Jordan as an important player on the global economic stage.
